Ram Band Update (10/29/10): Fundraiser Totals & Tonight's Call

To all:

I slipped on my duties regarding the Ram Band Update this week.  My apologies.

Our 2010 Fall Fundraiser for New Uniforms was a success.  The total amount raised was $2778!!! Thank you to everyone for your hard work and continued support of the band program.  As stated prior to the fundraiser, WIMBA would award four prizes to the highest seller in each class.  The winners are: Lynashia Michens 9th Grade; Glen Miller 10th Grade; Stephen Shaner 11th Grade; Christian Smith 12th Grade.  Great job everyone!

Tonight's game is AWAY @ Columbus Academy; just a short 15 minutes away.  Weather forecast is for 45 degrees at kick-off.  All students should have layers under their uniforms.  They are permitted to bring ear warmers or wool caps and warm gloves for when they are in the stands (Items do not have to be school colors.  Staying warm is the most important)

CALL: 5:45
DEPART: 6:30
UNIFORM: WINTER (+ Layers)

To all:

My congratulations to our students for a fine performance in Ohio Stadium over the weekend.  I trust everyone enjoyed the experience and especially, watching the Ohio State Marching Band perform live!!  I'm still floored thinking about the arrangement of "Here's That Rainy Day".

Looking Ahead....

  • Thursday Nov 4 - RAM BAND CONCERT - 7PM:  Our season-in-review concert will take place on Thursday November 4th in the HS Auditorium.  In addition to our review of the shows and events of the season, we will premiere "Whither Must I Wander" in honor of Mr. Harriman.  Don't miss this special evening!!!

  • *** DATE CHANGE ***  Monday Nov 15 - FALL AWARDS BANQUET - 6:30PM:   Due to scheduling conflicts at the Whitehall Community Park, we have moved the Fall Awards Banquet to Monday, November 15th @ 6:30PM.  Please check your calendars and we will see you there.

  • *** DATE CHANGE ***  Friday Dec 17 - WYHS Bands Holiday Concert - 7:00PM:  Due to an additional scheduling conflict, we have moved the Holiday Concert to Friday December 17th.  Please adjust your calendars accordingly.

Back to the present.... This week we celebrate the Class of 2011.  It's Senior Show week.  The seniors select the music AND write the drill.  The band read though the music yesterday.  Instruments should be coming home each day for practicing this 'one week' show!

We have another busy week ahead of us; Parent/Teacher Conferences, COTA Day, Home vs. Lakewood, and the Buckeye Invitational.  Read everything very carefully!

  • TUESDAY - Ram Band Study Tables - CANCELLED THIS WEEK:  Parent/Teacher Conferences take precedence over study tables.  Don't let your studies go as we begin the 2nd nine weeks!!!
  • TUESDAY EVENING - Parent/Teacher Conferences:  If you would like to schedule a conference with Mr. Boyd Tressler or myself, please call Mrs. Gibson in the main office (417-5100).  Several of you have emailed me individually and I haven't replied yet because of this notice today.  All requests are run through the main office so they can track our conferences.   If you just want to stop by to say hello and check in, please feel free.
  • WEDNESDAY - PLAN/PSAT/Freshman Academy/Senior Field Trip Day:  All students at WYHS will be involved in class activities throughout the day.  Parents: check in with your students regarding any possible field trip forms they might need to fill out and have you sign.
  • THURSDAY EVENING - Parent/Teacher Conferences: Same information as before.  Please make an attempt to schedule conferences before 6PM.  If a conflict arises between a conference and our normal Thursday evening activities, just let me know so I can mark the attendance sheet accordingly.
  • THURSDAY EVENING SECTIONAL/REHEARSAL:  We have a NEW show this week AND its 8th grade band night AND Little Twirler night.  Instruments should be going home every night.  I would expect Thursday rehearsal to last until 9:00.

Ram Band Update (10/4/10): Week 7 - Away @ Granville

To all:

With the Logan Band Festival behind us, we've passed the halfway mark of the season!  We have several events coming up in October and November; so let's first look ahead:

  • TODAY - FALL FUNDRAISER KICK OFF:  We kick off our fall fundraiser today.  We are selling cookie dough in 6 different varieties.  Everything is pre-portioned and ready to bake.  All orders and payments are due MONDAY Oct. 18.  All Ram Band, Aries Guard, and Ramette members are highly encouraged to participate.  Top sellers for each class (Fr, So, Jr, Sr) receives $50!!!  (See attached flyer)

  • Sunday(s) Oct 10 & 17 - Etna & Beechwood Groundbreaking Ceremonies - 2PM:  Ms. Dobbert-Meloy has requested the band perform at the groundbreaking ceremonies for Etna and Beechwood.  I'm asking all squad leaders to check their calendars for Oct 10 & 17.  The ceremonies will take place @ 2PM.  Similar to last spring, we will provide music from 1:45-2:00, perform the Star Spangled Banner and possibly Alma Mater & Fight Song.  It is a very high honor for the Board of Education and Ms. Meloy to request our presence.  Squad Leaders: Please let me know if you are unable to perform.

  • Saturday Oct 16 - Buckeye Invitational @ OSU - TBA:  I received our performance time last week but due to athletic conflicts have requested a later time in the day to perform.  As soon as I know, you will know.

  • Friday Nov 5 - Columbus Veterans Day Parade - 12Noon:  We are still scheduled to perform this year.  Students need to keep their grades UP so we don't lose this opportunity!

Back to the present; we are on the road again this week in Granville performing the Band Camp Show.  Keep practicing!!!

  • TUESDAY - Ram Band Study Tables:  Attendance the last 3 weeks has been very disappointing.  A maximum of 5 students have been there each of those weeks.  Students should be keeping up with their school work each and every day.  We are here to help; don't miss out on the opportunity!

  • THURSDAY - Sectionals/Rehearsal - 6:00-9:00PM:  We're back to the Band Camp show this week.  Attendance is due @ 6:05PM.  Athletes: make sure you communicate with me if you have a conflict.

  • FRIDAY - Away @ Granville:  We are on the road this week versus Granville.  Remember; WE ARE THE RAMS.  Cheer on our team and do your best!  Travel Map:  Whitehall-Yearling HS to Granville HS
